Poliocephalus

Poliocephalus, also known as poliocephaly, is a rare congenital disorder characterized by the presence of multiple small, hairless, and often pigmented skin lesions on the scalp. These lesions are typically found in the occipital region and may be accompanied by other skin abnormalities. The exact cause of poliocephalus is not fully understood, but it is believed to be related to genetic mutations or environmental factors.

Poliocephalus is a rare condition, with an estimated prevalence of less than 1 in 100,000 births. It is more commonly diagnosed in males than females. The prognosis for individuals with poliocephalus varies, but many people with the condition lead relatively normal lives with appropriate medical care.

In some cases, poliocephalus may be associated with other genetic disorders, such as neurofibromatosis type 1. This association suggests that there may be a genetic component to the condition. However, the majority of cases of poliocephalus occur sporadically, with no clear familial pattern.
