Poistyöntö
Poistyöntö is a Finnish term that translates to "outpush" or "push out." It is most commonly used in the context of sports, specifically in track and field events like the shot put. In shot put, poistyöntö refers to the technique where an athlete propels the shot from their shoulder using a horizontal pushing motion rather than a rotational throw. This method is distinct from the glide or spin techniques and is often favored by athletes with a strong, static base and powerful upper body strength. The poistyöntö technique emphasizes a rapid extension of the arm and a transfer of weight forward to maximize the distance the shot travels. It requires precise timing and coordination to achieve an efficient and forceful release. While less common in elite competition than the spin, the poistyöntö remains a valid and effective method for achieving considerable distances in the shot put for athletes who master its mechanics.
