Plasmalogenanalyse refers to the analytical methods used to detect, quantify, and characterize plasmalogens. Plasmalogens are a class of ether lipids that are abundant in cell membranes, particularly in nervous tissue, heart, and immune cells. They play crucial roles in membrane structure, signaling, and protection against oxidative stress. Due to their unique ether linkage, plasmalogens are structurally distinct from diacyl glycerophospholipids and require specific analytical approaches.

The analysis of plasmalogens typically involves lipid extraction from biological samples, followed by separation and detection techniques. Common extraction methods utilize organic solvents like chloroform and methanol. Separation is often achieved through chromatography, such as thin-layer chromatography (TLC) or liquid chromatography (LC), including high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC). Detection methods commonly employed are mass spectrometry (MS) and sometimes gas chromatography (GC) after appropriate derivatization.
