Perusaste
Perusaste is the Finnish term for the basic education stage within the comprehensive school system. It encompasses the first nine years of compulsory education, typically from age seven to sixteen, and is commonly described as including both primary education (grades 1–6) and lower secondary education (grades 7–9). In everyday usage the whole sequence from first grade to ninth is referred to as perusaste, though the sub-divisions alakoulu (grades 1–6) and yläkoulu (grades 7–9) are recognized within it.
