Palestiinalaishallinto

Palestiinalaishallinto is the common Finnish term for the Palestinian Authority (PA). The Palestinian Authority is an interim administrative organization that was established to govern parts of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Its creation followed the Oslo Accords, signed in the early 1990s between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

The PA's primary responsibility is to provide civil services and maintain security in the areas under its jurisdiction. It has a president, a legislative council, and various ministries. The president of the Palestinian Authority is currently Mahmoud Abbas, who also chairs the PLO.

The international community generally recognizes the Palestinian Authority as the representative body of the Palestinian people. Its long-term goal, as envisioned by the Oslo Accords, was to pave the way for a sovereign Palestinian state. However, the ongoing Israeli occupation and political complexities have significantly hindered the PA's ability to fully realize this objective. The PA's authority and effectiveness are often limited by Israeli control over borders, movement, and resources in the Palestinian territories. Despite these challenges, the Palestinian Authority remains a central institution in Palestinian self-governance and in efforts to achieve a lasting peace settlement.
