Strip

Strip is a versatile term used in many domains. As a noun, it denotes a long, narrow piece of material such as metal, plastic, fabric, or paper. As a verb, strip means to remove an outer layer or covering, or to remove parts of something. In popular culture, a strip usually refers to a sequence of illustrated panels, most notably a comic strip in newspapers or magazines.

Materials and construction: Strips serve as edging, reinforcement, or sealing elements in building, carpentry, and electronics. They can be metal, plastic, tape-like, or fabric strips cut to specific widths. Stripping also denotes the removal of paint, insulation, or other finishes during renovation. In mining, strip mining is an open-pit method in which surface soil and rock are removed to expose ore, often followed by reclamation.

Media and performance: Comic strips present serialized humor or narrative in a few panels. In entertainment, a strip may refer to stripping, the performance of removing clothing, typically presented in a strip club. In measurement and data logging, strip charts show continuous records of a variable over time, and in electronics, stripline refers to a flat conductor used in high-frequency circuits. Other uses include strip malls and narrow parcels of land used in urban planning.
