Painonnostoliitto

Painonnostoliitto is the national governing body for the sport of weightlifting in Finland. It oversees competitive weightlifting, promotes participation, and coordinates the standardization of rules and competition formats within the country.

The federation organizes national championships for different age groups and skill levels, coordinates coaching and judging education, licenses clubs, and maintains athlete rankings. It runs development programs aimed at youth and developing athletes, and supports national teams through selection, training camps, and participation in international events.

Painonnostoliitto is a member of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF). Through these associations, it adheres to international competition rules, anti-doping standards, and works to ensure Finnish athletes can compete at world championships and the Olympic Games. The organization collaborates with clubs, regional associations, schools, and sports authorities to promote safe sport and broad participation.

Governance is based on a general meeting and an executive board, headed by a president, with committees for administration, coaching, competition, and development. As a national federation, it also maintains policies on athlete welfare, ethical sport, and compliance with national and international regulations.
