Orofaciaal

Orofaciaal (also written orofacial in English) is an adjective used to describe the region of the face and mouth, including the oral cavity, jaws and related soft tissues, and sometimes parts of the neck and airway that influence facial function. In medical and dental contexts, orofaciaal refers to conditions, disorders, and procedures that affect this region.

The orofaciaal region comprises the teeth and their supporting structures, the hard and soft palate, the tongue, lips and cheeks, the maxilla and mandible, the temporomandibular joint, and the salivary glands, as well as the nerves and vessels of the face, especially branches of the trigeminal nerve.

Clinically, orofaciaal health covers a range of disorders, including temporomandibular disorders and jaw pain, malocclusion and orthodontic issues, dental trauma and caries, periodontal and mucosal diseases, salivary gland problems, congenital anomalies such as cleft lip and palate, and oral cancer.
