Oodetes

Oodetes is a genus of birds belonging to the family Thraupidae, commonly known as tanagers. The genus was described by the ornithologist Carl von Boetticher in 1937. Species within the Oodetes genus are native to South America.

The most well-known species is Oodetes ignita, often referred to as the fire-capped tanager or scarlet-hooded tanager. This species is found in the Amazon basin, particularly in Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia. It is characterized by its vibrant plumage, with males typically exhibiting a bright red crown and face, contrasting with their olive-green or brown body. Females are generally more subdued in color.
