Nyálkahártyaelrehaladó

Nyálkahártyaelrehaladó is a Hungarian term that translates to "mucosal atrophy" or "atrophic gastritis" in English. It refers to a degenerative condition of the stomach lining where the glandular cells of the gastric mucosa are gradually replaced by fibrous tissue and intestinal-type cells. This process leads to a thinning and loss of function of the stomach lining, impairing its ability to produce acid and digestive enzymes.

The exact causes of nyálkahártyaelrehaladó are not fully understood, but it is often associated with chronic inflammation of the stomach, particularly Helicobacter pylori infection. Autoimmune factors, long-term use of certain medications like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and genetic predisposition are also considered contributing factors.

Symptoms can be varied and may include indigestion, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, early satiety, and a feeling of fullness. In some cases, individuals may experience no symptoms at all, and the condition is discovered incidentally during endoscopic examinations. Nutritional deficiencies, such as vitamin B12 and iron deficiency anemia, can also occur due to impaired absorption.

Diagnosis typically involves upper endoscopy with biopsies. Histological examination of the biopsy samples reveals the characteristic changes of mucosal atrophy and intestinal metaplasia. Treatment focuses on managing underlying causes, such as eradicating H. pylori infection if present, and addressing any resulting nutritional deficiencies. Regular endoscopic surveillance may be recommended due to an increased risk of developing gastric cancer in individuals with severe or extensive nyálkahártyaelrehaladó.
