Navisworks

Navisworks is a project review software developed by Autodesk for the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industries. It enables the integration, review, and simulation of 3D design data from multiple disciplines within a single environment, supporting decision making across design, construction, and operations.

Key capabilities include the aggregation of models from disparate sources (such as DWG, DWF, DXF, Revit, and other BIM and CAD formats), visualization and navigation of complex assemblies, and collaboration features that allow teams to review projects in a common context. Navisworks provides automated interference (clash) detection to identify conflicts between disciplines, and coordination workflows to resolve issues before construction.

Time-based planning features, such as the TimeLiner, couple model data with project schedules to produce 4D simulations. Quantification tools enable takeoffs and measurement of quantities from models. Markups, redlining, and portable viewpoints support review meetings, while animations and camera paths aid stakeholder communication. The software also supports reporting and export of issues, and can generate project snapshots for documentation.

Navisworks has historically been offered in two editions: Navisworks Manage, which includes clash detection and coordination; and Navisworks Simulate, focused on project review, 4D simulation, and quantity takeoffs. It is commonly used in BIM workflows and is compatible with a range of BIM tools and file formats, enabling collaboration across disciplines and project phases.

Users typically employ Navisworks during design coordination, constructability reviews, model consolidation for preconstruction analysis, and ongoing project monitoring, often alongside other Autodesk tools and cloud-based collaboration platforms.
