Mustesuihkutulostin, known in English as an inkjet printer, is a common type of computer peripheral used for printing digital documents and images onto paper. It operates by spraying extremely fine droplets of ink onto the paper in a precise pattern to form text and graphics. This process is achieved through a printhead that contains numerous tiny nozzles.

There are two primary technologies used in inkjet printheads: thermal inkjet and piezoelectric inkjet. Thermal inkjet technology heats the ink in small chambers within the nozzles, causing it to vaporize and create a bubble that expels a droplet of ink onto the paper. Piezoelectric inkjet technology uses a piezoelectric crystal that changes shape when an electric voltage is applied. This deformation creates a pressure pulse, forcing a droplet of ink out of the nozzle.

Inkjet printers typically use multiple ink cartridges, commonly black and various colors like cyan, magenta, and yellow, to produce a full spectrum of colors. Some models also include additional cartridges for specialized inks, such as photo black or gray inks for enhanced grayscale printing, or even white ink for printing on dark substrates. The quality of the print is determined by factors such as the resolution (measured in dots per inch, DPI), the size of the ink droplets, and the type of ink used.

Inkjet printers are widely used in homes and small offices due to their relatively low initial cost, versatility in printing on various media, and their ability to produce high-quality color graphics and photographs. However, they can be more expensive to operate over time due to the ongoing cost of ink cartridges.
