Muottina

Muottina, also known as Isorno Side Hut, is a mountain hut located in Switzerland. It is situated in the Zinal sector of the GR 5 long-distance hiking trail, in the Val d'Anniviers region of the canton of Valais. The hut is at an altitude of 3185 meters.

The Muottina mountain hut was built in 1979 and can accommodate up to 20 people. It is a basic, self-service facility, offering rustic accommodation and meals. Hikers and mountaineers use the hut as a staging point for excursions in the surrounding mountains, including the nearby Pointe de Finza d'Al Bacil.

Access to the hut is by foot, via a challenging 4-hour hike from the nearby village of Zinal, which has a railway station on the Martigny-Bever Donnaz-Dierazon (MGB) Riviera Railway. The hut is also accessible from the Isorno Glacier, but this route is typically taken by more experienced and equipped climbers.

Facilities at the Muottina mountain hut include simple accommodation in dorm rooms, a kitchen with fuel stove, and a toilet with basic sanitation. The hut has a small library and offers no in-hut guiding services, meals, or equipment rental. Hikers and climbers are advised to bring their own equipment, including cooking gear, sleeping bags, and crampons.
