Mootorratastes is the Estonian term for a motorcycle, a two-wheeled motor vehicle designed for road use. Most motorcycles are powered by an internal-combustion engine, but electric motorcycles are increasingly common. They typically feature a frame, a drivetrain to the rear wheel, a steering handlebar, and suspension tuned for different riding conditions. Braking is usually achieved with discs on both wheels, and many models use a combination of front and rear braking systems for stability and control.

Operation and design vary by style, but riding a motorcycle generally requires balance, coordination, and awareness of traffic. Most motorcycles have a manual transmission with a clutch, although some models use automatic transmission. Modern bikes incorporate electronic aids such as ABS, traction control, and ride modes to enhance safety and performance.

Classes and styles include sport bikes, naked bikes, cruisers, touring motorcycles, adventure bikes, and dual-sport bikes, as well as electric variants. These categories reflect differences in performance, ergonomics, luggage capacity, and intended riding environments, from urban commuting to long-distance travel or off-road exploration. Scooters, while technically two-wheeled motorized vehicles, are often treated as a separate category in practice.

Regulation and safety: In Estonia and the EU, motorcycle riders must hold an appropriate license (categories such as A1, A2, or A) under the European licensing system. Helmet use is generally mandatory, and motorcycles must be registered and insured. Rider training, protective gear, and regular vehicle inspections also contribute to road safety.

Industry and usage: Motorcycles are used for commuting, tourism, sport, and recreation. Global manufacturers include Honda, Yamaha, BMW, Ducati, and Harley-Davidson, with a diverse market that reflects different riding traditions, climates, and infrastructure. In Estonia, seasonal riding and local service networks support a vibrant motorcycle culture.
