Mkødtethetség

Mkødtethetség, more correctly written as működtethetőség in standard Hungarian, is a term used to describe the degree to which a system, device, or process can be operated as intended. It encompasses the practical ability to start, control, monitor, adjust, and stop a system under typical conditions, using the available interfaces, documentation, and support. Operability is a cross-disciplinary concept relevant to engineering, information technology, and operations management, and it is often considered together with functionality, reliability, and usability.

Etymology and usage: the word is formed from the verb működtet (to operate or run) and the suffix -hetőség, which expresses capability or possibility. A common nonstandard spelling without diacritics is mködtethetség, but the normative form is működtethetőség.

Scope and factors: operability covers technical aspects such as control clarity, response times, and fault tolerance, as well as human factors like ease of use, training requirements, and maintainability. It also includes interface design, documentation quality, and the system’s ability to be started, operated, and shut down safely and efficiently.

Measurement and evaluation: operability is assessed with criteria such as time to operational readiness, error rates during operation, mean time to recover from disturbances, user workload, and safety margins. Practical assessment often combines technical testing with user feedback and real-world scenario simulations.

Applications: used in product development, procurement specifications, risk assessments, and compliance evaluations to ensure that a system can be effectively operated in its intended environment.
