Mildhybrideistä

Mildhybrideistä, or mild hybrids, represent a step in automotive electrification, bridging the gap between traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and full hybrids. In a mild hybrid system, a small electric motor, often integrated with the engine or transmission, works in conjunction with a conventional gasoline or diesel engine. This electric motor's primary role is to assist the engine, not to propel the vehicle solely on electric power for any significant distance.

The electric motor in a mild hybrid system typically draws power from a small battery, which is recharged through regenerative braking. This means that when the vehicle decelerates, the motor acts as a generator, converting kinetic energy back into electrical energy. The stored energy is then used to provide a modest power boost to the engine during acceleration, reducing the workload on the combustion engine and consequently improving fuel efficiency. Mild hybrids can also enable smoother and more frequent engine start-stop functionality, further enhancing efficiency in urban driving conditions. They generally do not offer an all-electric driving mode. Compared to full hybrids, mild hybrids are simpler, less expensive, and lighter, making them an accessible way for manufacturers to offer improved fuel economy and reduced emissions without the complexity and cost of more advanced hybrid powertrains.
