Meshmushy

Meshmushy is a term used to describe a poorly optimized 3D model that exhibits excessive geometric complexity. This often results in a mesh with a very high polygon count, leading to several practical issues in computer graphics and 3D applications. Such models can be challenging to render efficiently, potentially causing performance slowdowns, increased memory usage, and longer loading times in game engines, visualization software, and other real-time applications.

The characteristics of a meshmushy model typically include a dense arrangement of polygons, often with redundant or unnecessary geometry. This can arise from various stages of the 3D modeling pipeline, such as aggressive subdivision modeling without proper cleanup, errors in automated 3D scanning or photogrammetry processes, or a lack of attention to polygon budget during asset creation. In some cases, meshmushy models may also contain non-manifold geometry or other topological errors that further complicate their use.

Optimizing a meshmushy model usually involves techniques like polygon reduction (decimation), retopology to create a cleaner, more efficient mesh, and the baking of high-resolution details onto a lower-polygon model using normal maps.
