Maßschneidern, often translated as tailoring or custom tailoring, is the art and craft of creating garments that are individually fitted to a client's body measurements and preferences. This process stands in contrast to ready-to-wear clothing, which is produced in standardized sizes. A Maßschneider, or tailor, meticulously takes a client's measurements, which can range from standard points like chest and waist to more intricate details such as shoulder slope and posture.

Following the measurement phase, a pattern is drafted or adapted specifically for the individual. This pattern serves as the blueprint for cutting the chosen fabric. The creation of a bespoke garment typically involves multiple fittings. During these fittings, the tailor assesses the garment's drape, comfort, and accuracy against the client's body, making adjustments as needed.
