Maxstyrka
Maxstyrka, often translated as maximum strength, denotes the greatest force a muscle or muscle group can produce in a single voluntary contraction, typically measured during a dynamic lift or an isometric hold. In Swedish fitness and sports science, maxstyrka is distinct from muscular endurance (the ability to sustain submaximal contractions) and from power (rate of force development).
Common ways to assess maxstyrka include a one-repetition maximum (1RM) test for exercises such as the squat,
Maxstyrka develops through neural adaptations, muscle fiber recruitment, and to a lesser extent hypertrophy, with neural
Training to increase maxstyrka typically uses high-intensity resistance (commonly about 80–95% of 1RM) and low repetition
Maxstyrka is sport- and task-specific and should be tailored to individual goals, limitations, and medical history.
