The concept covers both the behavior of individual markers when events occur and the collective dynamics that emerge from marker-to-marker relationships, such as linking, clustering, or coordinated highlighting.

At its core, markersinteracts relies on an event-driven model. Each marker can emit events (for example, on hover, click, or drag) and respond to events from other markers or from the user interface. An interaction graph often underpins this model, where markers are nodes and edges represent possible interactions, such as proximity-based linking or rule-based visibility. State management tracks properties like selection, visibility, and association with data objects, enabling consistent behavior across the interface.

Common interaction patterns include selection and focus, where a user selects one marker to reveal details; highlighting and emphasis, where related markers respond to a selection; linking and navigation, where actions on one marker reveal paths to others; and filtering or clustering, where markers adjust in response to zoom level or data constraints.
