This contrasts with student-led or inquiry-based approaches where learners take greater responsibility for their own learning. In many educational settings, lærerledete elements are used alongside other methods to structure learning and ensure foundational skills are established.

In practice, lærerledete methods often include direct instruction, demonstrations, guided practice, and structured questioning. The teacher plans a clear sequence, demonstrates procedures, clarifies misconceptions, and continuously assesses understanding through feedback and checks for understanding. In higher education, elements may appear as lectures, demonstrations, and structured tutorials, sometimes combined with activities that require student participation.

Benefits of lærerledete instruction include efficient delivery of core content, clear expectations, and scaffolding for learners with limited prior knowledge. It can provide a stable framework for skill development and help ensure alignment with curriculum standards. However, over-reliance on teacher-led approaches can limit student autonomy and opportunities for higher-order thinking if not balanced with opportunities for investigation, collaboration, and self-directed learning.
