LagosIbadan

LagosIbadan refers to the transport corridor between Lagos and Ibadan, two major urban centers in southwestern Nigeria. The term commonly covers the two principal components of the corridor: the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, a major road link, and the Lagos–Ibadan rail project, a standard‑gauge railway intended to complement road transportation and improve regional connectivity.

The Lagos–Ibadan Expressway is a key arterial road that connects Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, with Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. The route traverses several states and serves as a busy freight and passenger corridor, supporting commerce, industry, and daily commuting. Over the years, the expressway has undergone rehabilitation and expansion efforts to address congestion, safety concerns, and maintenance challenges. The corridor remains one of the most heavily trafficked road routes in the country.

The Lagos–Ibadan Rail project is a standard‑gauge railway developed to relieve pressure on the road corridor and provide faster, more efficient intercity movement. The project was undertaken as part of Nigeria’s broader railway modernization program and involved international financing and construction partnerships. The line is designed to carry both passenger and freight services, with multiple phases opening gradually as sections become operational. Operators on the corridor include the national railway authority, and services aim to offer reduced travel times compared with road transport and to stimulate regional economic activity.

Economically, LagosIbadan is a strategic growth axis, supporting manufacturing, logistics, and urban development along the corridor. The combined road and rail investments aim to improve regional integration, reduce travel times, and attract investment.
