Nigerias

Nigerias, commonly referred to as Nigeria, is a country in West Africa. It stretches from the Atlantic coast in the south to the Sahel in the north and shares borders with Niger, Chad, Benin, and Cameroon. The terrain includes mangrove swamps, tropical forests, and savanna, with Lagos serving as the largest city and commercial hub while Abuja is the capital. The nation is divided into 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Nigerias operates as a federal presidential republic. The president serves as both head of state and head of government, and a bicameral National Assembly comprises the Senate and the House of Representatives. The judiciary is independent and operates at federal and state levels.

Demographically, Nigerias is highly diverse, with hundreds of ethnic groups. The three largest are the Hausa-Fulani, Yoruba, and Igbo. English is the official language; many local languages are spoken. The religious landscape is split between Islam in the north and Christianity in the south and center, along with indigenous beliefs.

Economically, Nigerias has one of Africa’s largest economies, driven by oil and gas, agriculture, and services. It faces challenges such as inflation, unemployment, and infrastructure gaps but also hosts vibrant sectors in technology, entertainment (notably Nollywood), and manufacturing.

History: Nigeria emerged as a British colony and gained independence in 1960, followed by a civil war from 1967 to 1970. A transition to civilian rule began in 1999, and since then the country has held regular elections within a federal system.
