Koelvatsfilters

Koelvatsfilters is a designation used in process engineering to refer to filtration assemblies installed in or around cooling vats (koelvats) that remove particulates from liquids as they are circulated or held for cooling. The term combines the Dutch word for cooling tank, koelvat, with filter, and is used to describe inline or integrated filtration modules in industrial cooling circuits. These systems are designed to operate with minimal disruption to heat-exchange performance and product safety.

Design and operation commonly involve a filtration housing connected to the cooling loop, either at the outlet, return, or in a bypass loop. Filtration media may include disposable cartridge filters, reusable mesh or pleated elements, or bag filters. Typical filtration ratings range from coarse to fine (large particulates down to several micrometers), with configurations that may include automatic cleaning, backflushing, or sanitary CIP-compatible designs. Materials are usually corrosion-resistant stainless steel or compatible polymers to withstand cold temperatures and cleaning agents.

Applications and benefits span multiple industries, including dairy, brewing, fruit juice, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. By removing particulates and microorganisms before or during cooling, koelvatsfilters protect heat exchangers from fouling, reduce risk of contamination, improve product quality, and extend equipment life.
