Klinkierowa

Klinkierowa is a feminine noun in Polish that refers to a person who works with klinkier bricks, or more broadly to a female tradesworker involved in handling or installing clinker bricks. The term derives from klinkier, a type of high-fired ceramic brick used in durable exterior construction, combined with the feminine agent suffix -owa. It is largely obsolete or dialectal in contemporary Polish and not commonly used in standard construction vocabulary; modern descriptions would typically specify the occupation (for example, klinkierarz for a male worker, klinkierarka for a female worker, or simply bricklayer) or use neutral occupational titles.

In traditional usage, a klinkierowa would be engaged in processes related to klinkier: manufacturing, cutting to size, laying bricks, and applying mortar, especially on building facades where clinker brickwork is valued for its weather resistance and aesthetic. The role requires knowledge of brick sizes and tolerances, mortar types, mixing, patterning, and finishing joints (pointing). Tools might include trowels, jointers, levels, chisels, and cutting equipment.

Klinkier bricks themselves are dense, glazed or unglazed ceramic blocks fired at high temperatures, notable for color variation, durability, and low water absorption, making them popular in European architecture from the late 19th century onward. While the term klinkierowa is rarely used today, clinker masonry remains a recognized craft within the broader trade of bricklaying, and gender-specific job titles have largely given way to gender-neutral language.
