Kiintymyshäiriöt, also known as attachment disorders, refer to a group of psychological conditions characterized by difficulty forming healthy emotional bonds with caregivers and others. The concept originates from attachment theory, which emphasizes the importance of early relationships in shaping interpersonal behavior. Two main subtypes are recognized: disinhibited attachment disorder (also called selective mutism–type) and inhibited attachment disorder (also called reactive attachment disorder). Patients may exhibit either hyper-affectionate, indiscriminate behavior toward strangers or socially withdrawn, guarded conduct with unfamiliar people.
