Kõigurõhust

Kõigurõhust, also known as high blood pressure or hypertension, is a common medical condition characterized by persistently elevated blood pressure in the arteries. Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps it around the body. It is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and is recorded as two numbers: systolic pressure (the top number) and diastolic pressure (the bottom number). Systolic pressure measures the force when the heart beats, while diastolic pressure measures the force when the heart rests between beats.

Normal blood pressure is generally considered to be below 120/80 mmHg. Blood pressure readings between 120/80 mmHg and 139/89 mmHg are considered prehypertension, indicating an increased risk of developing hypertension. Kõigurõhust is typically diagnosed when blood pressure readings are consistently at or above 140/90 mmHg.

There are two main types of kõigurõhust: primary (essential) hypertension and secondary hypertension. Primary hypertension develops gradually over many years and has no identifiable cause. It is thought to be influenced by a combination of genetic and environmental factors, including age, family history, diet, lack of physical activity, obesity, and stress. Secondary hypertension is caused by an underlying medical condition, such as kidney disease, thyroid problems, or certain medications.

Kõigurõhust is often called a "silent killer" because it may not have any noticeable symptoms. However, untreated high blood pressure can significantly increase the risk of serious health problems, including heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, and vision loss. Managing kõigurõhust usually involves lifestyle changes, such as adopting a healthy diet, regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, limiting alcohol intake, and quitting smoking. In some cases, medication may also be necessary to control blood pressure.
