Jäähdytysprofiili, or cooling profile, describes the variation of temperature over time during a cooling process. The concept is commonly applied in electronics, automotive engineering, battery management, and additive manufacturing to ensure components operate within safe thermal limits. A cooling profile is typically expressed as a temperature–time graph, where the shape of the curve—linear, exponential, or stepwise—reveals the underlying heat dissipation mechanisms and the effectiveness of the cooling system. In electronics, for instance, a heat sink or forced-air fan removes heat from a microprocessor, and the resulting cooling profile indicates how quickly the device stabilizes after operation. Automotive engines and electric vehicles rely on coolant loops that maintain engine temperatures, and their cooling profiles are used to validate thermal management during different driving cycles.
Batteries, especially lithium-ion types, use carefully designed cooling profiles to mitigate overheating during charging or discharging.
