Insulindoser

Insulindoser is a term used to describe the amount of insulin administered to manage blood glucose in people with diabetes. In clinical practice, doses are typically measured in units of insulin, often in U-100 or U-200 concentrations, and are adjusted as part of a structured regimen such as basal-bolus therapy. The term can encompass both basal (long-acting) and bolus (rapid-acting or short-acting) doses.

Bolus doses are taken with meals to cover carbohydrate intake and to correct high blood glucose. Carbohydrate counting and an insulin-to-carbohydrate ratio guide bolus dosing, while a correction factor (insulin sensitivity factor) helps adjust doses when blood glucose is above target. Basal doses provide a steady background level to control fasting glucose and overnight targets.

Dosing is individualized. Clinicians consider factors such as body weight, age, kidney or liver function, illness, activity, pregnancy, and the type and duration of diabetes. Doses are adjusted based on self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) or continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data and patient response, and may change over time or with changes in routine.

Delivery methods include injections—daily injections of multiple doses—insulin pens, and continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion via pumps. Pump therapy can deliver precise basal rates and bolus doses, while pens and syringes are commonly used for flexible dosing.

Safety and training are essential. Users monitor for hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia and follow professional guidance to avoid errors, allergies, or unintended overdose. Proper storage, handling, and dose calculation are emphasized in patient education.
