Instructing is the act of guiding another person to acquire knowledge or perform a task through explicit directions, demonstrations, and feedback. Scaffolding, prompts, and checks for understanding are used to adapt to learner needs and build competence gradually.

It is distinct from broader learning or education, which also seeks to foster understanding, critical thinking, and inquiry.
