Insidious

Insidious is an English adjective used to describe something that proceeds in a stealthy, gradual, and harmful way, often with effects that are not immediately noticeable. The term emphasizes a creeping danger or deceit that becomes evident only after damage has occurred. It derives from the Latin insidiosus, meaning “full of ambush,” from insidiae, meaning traps or ambushes, and entered English in the medieval period. In medical and public health language, insidious describes conditions with a slow, gradual onset and few early symptoms, such as an insidious disease or an insidious progression of risk factors. The adverb insidiously and the noun insidiousness or insidiousness are also used to describe actions or processes characterized by stealth and harm.

In broader usage, insidious can refer to influences, practices, or environments that undermine or degrade gradually

Insidious may also refer to works of fiction, most notably the 2010 American supernatural horror film Insidious,
