Inflaatiosen is a hypothetical medical syndrome characterized by recurrent episodes of inflammation that can affect multiple organ systems. The condition is defined by episodes of acute inflammatory signs such as swelling, redness, pain, and fever, followed by partial or complete remission between flares. Onset may occur at various ages, and the pattern of organ involvement can vary between individuals.

Clinical features vary but commonly include transient swelling of tissues (edema), migratory joint pain, skin changes such as rashes or urticarial lesions, abdominal or chest discomfort, and fatigue. Flares may be triggered by infections, stress, hormonal changes, or certain medications, though triggers are not consistent across all patients.

Pathophysiology is not fully understood. The proposed mechanisms involve dysregulated innate or adaptive immune responses, with raised inflammatory mediators during flares. Genetic predisposition and environmental factors may contribute. Because symptoms overlap with other inflammatory diseases, differential diagnosis includes autoimmune or autoinflammatory disorders.

Diagnosis relies on clinical history and objective markers of inflammation during flares, such as elevated C-reactive protein or erythrocyte sedimentation rate, along with imaging or tissue biopsy when indicated. A thorough workup excludes infections, malignancies, and other rheumatic diseases. There are no universal diagnostic criteria, making diagnosis by exclusion common.

Management emphasizes suppression of inflammation and prevention of flares. Treatment strategies commonly include NSAIDs for mild pain, corticosteroids during severe flares, and disease-modifying agents or biologics in persistent or severe cases. Lifestyle adjustments, regular monitoring, and multidisciplinary care are advised to address multisystem involvement and improve quality of life.
