Illalla

Illalla is a small town and municipality in the fictional Veridia region, situated along the Illa River in the Riverland Highlands. It has an estimated population of 4,200 as of 2023 and serves as a local center for farming and services for surrounding villages.

The landscape comprises rolling farmland and patches of deciduous forest. The climate is temperate, with warm summers and cool winters, and precipitation is moderate year round. The town sits on gently sloping terrain that is prone to seasonal river floods.

Illalla was founded in the late 17th century by agrarian settlers who established mills along the Illa River. The mills spurred growth, and the town gradually developed streets, a town square, and basic municipal services. It gained official municipality status in the late 20th century.

Governance follows a mayor-council system. Illalla is part of Veridia’s Riverland district and operates a five-member council led by a locally elected mayor. Public services include a small administration, planning office, and a police presence.

The local economy centers on agriculture, dairy farming, and forestry, complemented by small-scale manufacturing and crafts. A weekly farmers market supports producers and residents, while a handful of workshops supply regional customers.

Cultural life centers on the annual Harvest Festival and community library. Notable landmarks include the Stone Illa Bridge and the Old Mill Complex. The town maintains a sports club and a network of village green spaces.

Illalla is served by regional roads and a daily bus service to nearby towns. The nearest railway station is in Valen, about 25–30 km away; there is no airport. Education is provided by Illalla Public School for primary and lower secondary students.
