Hammasraudat

Hammasraudat, commonly known as braces, are orthodontic devices used to correct misaligned teeth and jaws. They consist of small brackets that are bonded to the surface of each tooth, connected by a wire that exerts gentle pressure. This pressure gradually moves the teeth into their desired positions over time.

The primary purpose of hammasraudat is to improve both the aesthetics and function of a person's bite. Straight teeth are easier to clean, reducing the risk of cavities and gum disease. Proper alignment also ensures that the upper and lower teeth come together correctly, which can prevent jaw pain and chewing difficulties.

There are various types of hammasraudat, including traditional metal braces, ceramic braces that blend in with tooth color, and lingual braces which are attached to the back of the teeth. In some cases, clear aligners, which are removable plastic trays, can also be used as an alternative. The duration of treatment varies depending on the complexity of the orthodontic issue, but typically ranges from several months to a few years. Regular check-ups with an orthodontist are essential to monitor progress and make adjustments as needed. Once treatment is complete, patients usually wear a retainer to maintain the corrected position of their teeth.
