Hallenkran

A Hallenkran, or hall crane, is an overhead crane installed inside an industrial hall to move loads horizontally along a fixed path. The system consists of a bridge spanning a runway, on which a hoist and trolley travel; the bridge itself moves along rails mounted in the hall structure. This arrangement allows continuous, efficient handling of heavy items within indoor production, assembly, and storage areas.

Two common configurations are used. Single-girder hall cranes have one main beam and are typically lighter, suitable for a wide range of medium-duty applications. Double-girder hall cranes employ two parallel beams, offering higher rigidity and greater lift capacities for heavy or continuous operations. Runways can be integrated into the building’s framework or arranged as free-standing frames anchored to columns.

The hoist is operated via a pendant control at the crane, a radio remote, or from an operator cabin. Modern installations include safety features such as overload protection, limit switches, emergency stop devices, and, in some cases, anti-collision systems and remote diagnostics.

Typical applications include material handling on production lines, warehousing, loading and unloading, and heavy assembly work in industries such as metalworking, automotive, and logistics. The design and installation of Hallenkrane must comply with applicable standards and regulations for lifting equipment, commonly aligned with European and national crane standards and electrical safety requirements. Regular inspections, maintenance, and testing are required to ensure ongoing safe operation.
