The bail is the loop that attaches the pendant to a chain, allowing it to hang freely.

Cultural and historical notes. Pendants have been used since ancient times as personal adornment, symbols of faith, or talismans. Care and wearing. Care varies by material; silver can tarnish and may require polishing, while gold and platinum resist tarnish but still need cleaning to remove oils.
