Grundgangarten
Grundgangarten are basic types of movement or locomotion that serve as foundational building blocks for more complex motor skills. In developmental psychology and early childhood education these categories are used to structure observation and intervention programs aimed at improving physical coordination and balance. Typically, Grundgangarten are divided into a few broad groups: horizontal movements such as walking, running, hopping and skipping; vertical movements including jumping, leaping, and climbing; and rotational or pivoting actions such as turning or twisting while standing or moving.
In preschool and kindergarten curricula the identification of Grundgangarten allows teachers to assess the motor development
Physical therapists and rehabilitation specialists also adopt the concept of Grundgangarten when restoring gait or movement
