Greenshade

Greenshade is a temperate forested region in the eastern portion of the continent of Verdara. The landscape comprises rolling deciduous woodlands, slow rivers, and scattered peat bogs that create a mosaic of wetlands and uplands. The climate features distinct seasons, with cool winters and mild summers.

Flora and fauna: The woodlands are dominated by oaks, maples, and beeches, with dense understory of ferns and mosses. Rivers support otters and various fish; common mammals include roe deer, red foxes, and hedgehogs. The region is noted for emerald-hued moss that grows along shaded streams.

History: Greenshade has been inhabited since antiquity by forest-dwelling communities whose traditions emphasize woodland stewardship. In medieval times it sometimes came under neighboring polities and saw conflicts over hunting rights and timber. By the 12th century, the Greenshade Accord established a semi-autonomous council to govern local affairs.

Administration and economy: It is part of the Verdaran Confederacy and governed by the Greenshade Council, based in Larkmere. The economy relies on sustainable forestry, foraging, and small-scale agriculture, complemented by woodcraft and basketry. Tourism centers on nature trails, glade markets, and light artisanal production.

Notable sites: The Glade Market is held at midsummer; the Shimmering Falls on the River Serin; and the Shadewood Forest Reserve protects ancient trees. Greenshade hosts several endemic species and serves as a cultural landscape for local communities.
