Accord

Accord is a term with several related but distinct meanings. In general English usage, an accord is an agreement or harmony between people or groups. It can denote a formal treaty or understanding in diplomacy or law. The word derives from Old French accord, from Latin ad- "toward" and cor, cordis "heart," implying bringing parties into harmony.

As a verb, accord can mean to grant or bestow (for example, to accord rights) or to be in agreement with something (to accord with the evidence).

In international relations, accords are often less formal than treaties and describe settlements, understandings, or pacts on issues such as trade, disarmament, or environmental cooperation. A well-known example is the Oslo Accords, a set of agreements between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization in the 1990s; however, many other accords exist globally.

In popular culture and commerce, Accord is best known as the name of Honda's line of mid-size cars, the Honda Accord. Since its introduction in 1976, the model has been produced in multiple generations and body configurations and has become one of the best-selling cars in its class.

In music, the term accord is used in some languages to mean a chord or harmony; in English, the term chord or harmony is more common.
