Gangtrening

Gangtrening is a term used to describe the process by which members of street gangs or organized criminal groups learn the skills, norms, and routines needed to participate in criminal activity and maintain group cohesion. Training often occurs informally through peer socialization, but can also be part of more structured subcultures within a gang. It may include initiation rites, the assignment of roles (leaders, scouts, enforcers, suppliers), and the development of routines for communication, territory control, and criminal enterprises. Training topics commonly include methods of acquiring resources, coordination for operations, surveillance and security, conflict management, and the code of loyalty. Some gang environments incorporate elements of intimidation or violence as means of enforcing discipline, though the specific content and intensity vary widely.

The spread of gangtrening can be influenced by socioeconomic factors such as poverty, marginalization, and exposure to violence. It contributes to local crime patterns and poses challenges for public safety and youth development. Researchers emphasize that gang training is often a socialization process, embedded in family, neighborhood networks, and peer groups, rather than a formal curriculum.

Prevention and intervention efforts focus on addressing risk factors, providing alternatives (education, employment, mentorship), and targeted policing strategies that aim to disrupt training opportunities while avoiding stigmatization.
