GNSStekniker (GNSS technician) is a professional who works with Global Navigation Satellite System technology, including GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou. They install, operate, and maintain GNSS equipment and ensure data quality for surveying, mapping, construction, and navigation applications.

Typical duties include field data collection with GNSS receivers, real-time positioning using RTK or postprocessed differential techniques, antenna calibration, quality control, and troubleshooting hardware and software. They may integrate GNSS measurements with inertial sensors or traditional surveying instruments and produce geodetic coordinates in appropriate datums.

Work environments span surveying firms, civil engineering and construction, utilities, agriculture, forestry, telecommunications, aviation, maritime operations, and government agencies.

Core knowledge includes coordinate systems and datums (for example WGS84 and ETRS89), error sources (multipath, ionospheric delay), accuracy assessment, data formats (RINEX, RTCM), and GNSS processing software and GIS tools.

Education and training typically involve a technical diploma or bachelor’s degree in geomatics, surveying, geodesy, or civil engineering, plus hands-on GNSS experience. Certifications from equipment manufacturers (Trimble, Leica, Septentrio) or general geospatial credentials support career development.

With experience, GNSS technicians may advance to senior technician, field supervisor, or project engineer, and eventually to geospatial project management roles. In Swedish contexts, the title GNSS-tekniker is commonly used.
