Futásmennyiség, often translated as "running volume" or "training volume," refers to the total amount of running a person undertakes over a specific period, typically a week or a month. It is a crucial metric in training for endurance sports, particularly running events like marathons, half-marathons, and shorter races.

Measuring futásmennyiség can be done in several ways. The most common method is by distance, usually expressed in kilometers or miles. For example, a runner might aim to complete 50 kilometers in a week. Another approach is by time, where the focus is on the duration of running sessions, such as 300 minutes per week. Less common, but sometimes used, is by intensity, though this is usually combined with distance or time.

Increasing futásmennyiség is a fundamental principle of endurance training. Gradual progression allows the body to adapt to the demands of running, strengthening muscles, tendons, and bones, and improving cardiovascular fitness. However, rapid or excessive increases in volume can lead to overtraining, fatigue, and injuries. Therefore, a structured approach to increasing futásmennyiség, often following the "10% rule" (increasing volume by no more than 10% per week), is generally recommended.
