Frostgate

Frostgate is a fortified town and border crossing in the northern frontier of the Kingdom of Eldoria, at the Frostgate Pass where roads from the Iron Mountain Range descend into the Lowlands. It serves as a customs point, a military outpost, and a regional market town.

Historically founded in the 9th century as a garrison to guard the pass, Frostgate grew around a gatehouse that gave the town its name. It withstood several sieges in the Northern Wars, and substantial stone fortifications were added after major frost events. The gate itself, forged in enchanted ice, is rebuilt periodically.

Frostgate lies in a high valley exposed to cold northern winds. Winters are long and snowy; summers are short and cool. The surrounding forests are coniferous, with a frozen river nearby that can freeze to allow crossing in winter.

The economy centers on trade in timber, furs, and ore, with Frostglass, an ice-derived product, as a notable export. The Gatehouse anchors the town and houses the warden’s offices; a network of inns and weekly markets serves caravans from across Eldoria.

Governing it is a council advised by a Warden appointed by the Crown. The population is primarily human, with dwarven artisans and other traders drawn to the border town.

Cultural life centers on the Icegate Festival, featuring ice sculpture, winter tournaments, and local feasting. Key landmarks include the Gatehouse, Frostgate Tower, and the Icewell.
