Fotodiodereja, also known as photodiode sensitivity or photodiode response, refers to the characteristic behavior of photodiodes in converting light into electrical signals. Photodiodes are semiconductor devices that generate a current when exposed to light, making them essential components in various applications such as light sensing, optical communication, and imaging systems.

The sensitivity of a photodiode is determined by its ability to efficiently convert incident photons into electron-hole pairs. This process occurs within the depletion region of the diode, where absorbed photons generate charge carriers. The effectiveness of this conversion depends on factors such as the material composition of the photodiode, its wavelength response, and the quality of the semiconductor junction.

Photodiodes are typically categorized into two main types: pin photodiodes and avalanche photodiodes. Pin photodiodes feature an intrinsic (undoped) layer that enhances their sensitivity to light, while avalanche photodiodes utilize a high electric field to create a multiplication effect, significantly increasing their sensitivity but requiring careful handling to avoid damage.

The response of a photodiode is often quantified in terms of responsivity, measured in amperes per watt (A/W), which indicates the ratio of generated photocurrent to incident optical power. Responsivity varies with wavelength, as different semiconductor materials exhibit peak sensitivity at specific light wavelengths. For example, silicon photodiodes are commonly used for visible and near-infrared light, while germanium or indium gallium arsenide (InGaAs) photodiodes extend sensitivity into the infrared spectrum.

Factors such as temperature, reverse bias voltage, and surface treatment can also influence photodiode performance. Proper packaging and shielding are often employed to minimize noise and maximize sensitivity in sensitive applications. Understanding and optimizing these parameters are crucial for achieving reliable and accurate light detection in electronic systems.
