Fixedlayout

Fixedlayout refers to a page design approach in which the dimensions of the main layout are fixed and do not scale with the viewport. In a fixedlayout, the central container often has a specific width measured in pixels, and content blocks retain defined sizes and positions regardless of screen width. This results in a non-fluid page where horizontal scrolling may occur on smaller devices, and typography and images are typically tuned to the fixed dimensions.

Implementation commonly uses CSS rules such as a fixed width for the main container (for example, 960px or 1024px) and centered alignment with margins. Internal elements may use fixed widths and absolute positioning to preserve the intended arrangement. Because there is little or no fluid resizing, designs can be pixel-perfect on a target resolution but become inconsistent on others.

Fixedlayout was common in early web design and in some print-like or brochure-style sites where precise composition was important. With the rise of mobile devices and varying viewport sizes, fixed layouts have largely been superseded by fluid and responsive designs that adapt to the available space. Nevertheless, fixed-width templates and fixed-layout newsletters remain in use for certain print-style presentations or environments where a controlled display is desired and the target viewport is known.

Advantages of fixedlayout include predictable typography, consistent image scaling, and easier alignment for designers working with fixed grids. Disadvantages include poor adaptability to different devices, possible accessibility issues due to text not reflowing, and maintenance overhead when supporting multiple screen sizes.

In modern practice, fixedlayout is generally considered less adaptable than responsive or fluid layouts, and is often used only for niche cases or legacy content.
