The initial stages of festival organization involve defining the festival's identity, target audience, and overall vision. This includes choosing a genre or a mix of genres for music festivals, or deciding on the specific cultural elements to be showcased. Financial planning is crucial, with arrangørs needing to secure funding through ticket sales, sponsorships, grants, and other revenue streams.

Logistics are a significant part of the job. This involves selecting and preparing the festival site, which can range from open fields to urban spaces. Arrangements must be made for stages, sound systems, lighting, catering, sanitation facilities, and camping if applicable.
