One of the most common embossing methods is heat embossing, which involves using heat and pressure to press a design from a specialized stamp or die onto the material. This technique is frequently used in paper crafts, such as card making and printing, where embossing powders are melted to produce a raised shiny surface. Cold embossing, on the other hand, employs adhesives and pressure without heat, suitable for delicate or heat-sensitive materials.

Another prevalent method is blind embossing, which creates a design without any additional ink or foil, resulting in a subtle, textured pattern visible through surface variations. Foil embossing, often called hot stamping, combines heat and foil material to produce metallic or colored raised effects for luxury packaging and decorative inserts.

Embossing techniques can be executed through different equipment setups, including dry embossing with embossing folders, and wet embossing, which involves applying a viscous medium before drying or curing. Digitally controlled embossing methods have also been developed to enable precise, complex patterns suitable for mass production and customization.
