Elfhorses

Elfhorses are a mythical creature described in European folklore and modern fantasy as horse-like beings linked to elven realms. They are usually portrayed as intelligent, elusive, and deeply attuned to nature, capable of forming bonds with elves and other fae. In many traditions they are not ordinary horses but emissaries of the forest, able to move between the mortal world and the elven domain at twilight or moonrise.

Coats are commonly pale—silver, white, or pale gold—and may bear a faint glow. Manes and tails are often luminous, and eyes are bright. Some renditions show markings such as stars, runes, or arcane sigils on their flanks.

Habitat and behavior: They inhabit ancient woodlands, glades, and other fae-rich places. They are shy of crowds, preferring moonlit nights, and are believed to feed on dew, mist, or magical herbs. Communication with elves is usually telepathic; they are protective of their riders and habitats.

Abilities and role: Elfhorses are famed for speed and endurance and may travel between realms or times. They serve as noble mounts for elf-riders, guardians against dark magic, and healers of damaged lands in some tales. They symbolize nature, freedom, and the bond between elves and the forest.
