Drivatar

Drivatar is a proprietary AI technology developed by Microsoft's Turn 10 Studios, primarily featured in the Forza Motorsport racing game series. Its core purpose is to create a more lifelike and dynamic racing experience by learning from the player's driving habits and those of other players. Drivatar models are not simply pre-programmed AI opponents; instead, they are designed to mimic the unique driving styles of real gamers.

When a player races, their Drivatar records data such as their acceleration, braking, cornering, and racing lines. This information is then uploaded and used to train the Drivatar models of other players. Consequently, when a player races against Drivatar opponents, they are effectively competing against the aggregated driving behaviors of thousands of other Forza players. This results in AI that can exhibit a wider range of driving skills and tendencies, from aggressive overtaking to cautious maneuvering, making each race feel less predictable. The Drivatar system aims to bridge the gap between playing against human opponents and traditional, more scripted AI.
