Driftare

Driftare is a term used in Swedish and some other Nordic languages to describe an agent performing drift in different contexts. In industrial and service contexts, driftare denotes a person responsible for the ongoing operation of a facility, system, or process. The driftare monitors instrumentation, controls equipment, initiates start-up and shutdown procedures, responds to alarms, and coordinates maintenance and safety activities. The role requires knowledge of process control, safety regulations, and often formal qualifications in engineering, automation, or technical trades. Work is typically performed in control rooms, operation centers, or on site, and duties may include data logging and reporting on performance and incidents.

In motorsport and popular culture, driftare (often rendered as drift driver or drifter in English) refers to a person who performs drifting—a driving technique where the driver intentionally oversteers to create a controlled slide. Driftare in this sense focus on maintaining a high vehicle angle, precise line, speed management, and angle control through corners, usually under timed or judged conditions. Vehicles used are commonly rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive with tuned suspension, tires, and power delivery to enable sustained slides. The activity ranges from informal street drifting to professional competition and display events, and it emphasizes driving technique and car control as a sport.
